How can Visual Alerting Systems help me?

The products are designed to help people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing stay in touch with the world around them. This is done by flashing lights around your home or office to let you know that your telephone or doorbell is ringing, your baby is crying, your alarm clock has gone off, and so forth. There are also bed vibrators that will shake your bed to wake you up if flashing lights do not work for you. Each sound will produce a different flashing pattern so you will always know why the lights are flashing.

Do I need to buy special lights?

You can use the lamps that you already have in your home. You just plug them into the outlets on our products and your new system is ready to use!

What can be used with an existing smoke detector, fire alarm system to notify a Deaf person that the alarm is going off?

You can use the Clarity Alertmaster AM-AX Audio Alarm Transmitter to send a signal to the Clarity Alertmaster AM-RX2 receiver. You can plug a lamp into the AM-RX2 or use a pillow vibrator that plugs into a standard electrical outlet instead of the lamp.

What can be used by a bedridden person to notify a Deaf person in another room in the house that they require their attention?

The Clarity Alertmaster Wireless Doorbell can be used in conjunction with the AM-PX Personal Signaler or the Silent Call Pager Transmitter can be used in conjunction with the Omni-Page Receiver. The doorbell or pager transmitter will send a signal to the personal signaler or pager receiver and it would then vibrate to let the Deaf person know that they are being paged. The personal signaler or page receiver are worn on the belt or put in the pocket and would receive the signal up to 80 feet away. You can find these items under Paging Devices on our site.

Can I buy a few products now and add more later?

Yes! Only buy the signalers that you need now, and you can add more as your needs grow. Remember that you can have as many signalers and remote receivers as you need. And you can just unplug them and take them with you when you move. You can not mix signalers and receivers from different manufacturers.

How can I make people's voices louder when listening to them on the telephone?

If you find it hard to hear what is said over the phone, a telephone amplifier may help as it will make incoming speech louder. Amplifiers attach either to the earpiece of your handset, or between the phone and handset. Some products also have an inductive coupler for people who use hearing aids. You can also purchase an amplified telephone.

What can I use to help me hear the television better?

If you can't hear the television clearly, even with the sound turned up, then there is equipment available to help. You can use headphones, a neckloop, an earloop, a loop system or an infrared system to help you hear sound more clearly. What you should choose will depend on your hearing loss and whether you wear a hearing aid. Other people around you will be able to listen to the television at a normal volume while you control the volume you hear it at.

What can I use instead of an alarm clock, as I can't hear mine?

Alarm clocks for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people come in a wide range of styles and sizes, and some look very similar to standard alarm clocks. Unlike standard alarm clocks, they alert you to the alarm by vibrating or producing a flashing light. Many also have a sound alarm, which can be useful if your partner is hearing.

What is an induction loop?

A loop system helps Deaf people who use a hearing aid or loop listener to hear sounds more clearly by reducing or cutting out background noise. At home, for example, you could use a loop to pick up sound from your television, hi-fi or radio. A loop can also be set up with a microphone to help hearing aid users hear conversations in noisy places. In the theatre, a loop can help you hear the show more clearly.
A loop cannot be used to give stereo sound. If this is important you should consider using an infrared system.
